Our Gentle Effective Ingredients

Avocado Oil Rich in Vitamins A, B1, B2, D, E, and beta carotene, avocado oil is nourishing and suitable for dehydrated, sun exposed and dry skin.  It significantly increases the amount of collagen in the skin, is known for its regenerative and rejuvenating properties and is effective in helping reduce the itchiness and discomfort associated with some skin conditions.
Beeswax Beeswax is a natural substance obtained from the honeycomb of the honeybee and has a warm, sweet scent.  It is often used as a thickener, emulsifier or stiffening agent in various cosmetics.
Benzoin With a sweet, warm and vanilla-like aroma, Benzoin resin is excellent for improving skin elasticity, aiding the healing of sores and wounds while at the same time reducing redness, irritation and itching.  It is also an effective natural preservative and antioxidant.
Calendula The great anti-inflammatory properties of calendula make it excellent for use in treating bruises, rashes, minor burns, inflamed skin, nappy rash, eczema and other dry itchy skin conditions.  Excellent in helping to sooth sore cracked nipples.
Camellia Oil Camellia oil has been used for centuries to nourish and condition the skin, hair and nails. It is high in oleic and linoleic acid and rich in Vitamins A, B, and E, which provide antioxidant, disinfectant and germicidal properties.  It promotes elasticity of the skin and is said to minimize the appearance of ageing if used regularly. It is also soothing to dry and sensitive skin.
Cetearyl Olivate A non ionic naturally derived mild emulsifier derived from Olive Oil Sorbitan Olivate and the esterification of its fatty acid groups.
Chamomile The active constituents of chamomile have fantastic anti-inflammatory and wound healing properties. Chamomile is particularly beneficial for sensitive skin and has also been known to help alleviate stress and anxiety.  A cold compress of Roman Chamomile may even be used to provide natural relief from migraine, and a sprit or two known to calm a cranky baby.
Citric Acid Citric Acid is found in a variety of fruits and vegetables, but is most concentrated in lemons and limes. It has important astringent and preservative functions, acts as an antioxidant and is widely used as an organic acid/alkali balancer. It has no known toxicity. Citric Acid is present in the metabolism of almost all living things.
Cocoa Butter Cocoa Butter (also known as Cacao Butter) is an excellent moisturising agent for the skin and one of the most stable fats known as it contains natural antioxidants that prevent rancidity. Cocoa butter has a melting point of around 34 to 38°C rendering it solid at room temperature, but it readily melts on contact with the skin making it excellent for use on particularly tender areas.
Decyl Glucocide Decyl glucoside is a natural non ionic surfactant made from a reaction between the fatty alcohols from coconut oil and a natural sugar from corn starch.  It meets all the requirements of organic certifying bodies around the world and has a first-rate environmental and skin compatibility profile.
Evening Primrose Oil Evening Primrose Oil has been praised for centuries for its healing powers in a wide range of ailments. The secret lies in the seed, which contains the essential fatty acid GLA (Gamma Linolenic Acid).It is beneficial in treating skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis.  It may also help restore the youthfulness of skin and hair as well as help improve general well-being.
Glycerine Glycerine is a viscous, colourless liquid derived from vegetable fats and is a by product of the saponificiation process.  It is most commonly used in soaps and lotions as an emollient and humectant.
Frankincense Frankincense was one of the most highly praised substances of the ancient world. It makes it an excellent tonic for the skin and helps rejuvenate, smooth and balance oily skin conditions. Particularly effective with scar tissue, wounds and inflammation.
Glyceryl Caprylate A natural emulsifier and preservative, glyceryl caprylate is esterified with vegetable fatty and fruit acids for use in organic skincare.
Glyceryl Stearate A compound of glycerine derived from the oil from palm, rape and sunflower plants and naturally occurring stearic acid. It serves as an emulsifier in organic skincare products.
Hydrosol Hydrosols are a by-product of the essential oil steam distillation process, are the very essence of the plant.  They are gentle, relaxing, have anti-inflammatory properties and are excellent for calming delicate complexions with allergic tendencies.  As they are mildly astringent, hydrosols make an excellent skin toner.
Jojoba Jojoba is a botanical extract of the seed of the jojoba tree, and is actually a liquid wax.  It is only one chromosomal bar removed from the skin’s own sebum, our skin’s own natural oil, making it an excellent mosituriser and skin conditioner.  It is naturally anti-bacterial, non-allergenic, non-comedogenic (does not clog the pores) and excellent for helping to treat eczema, psoriasis, and other dry flaky skin conditions.
Lavender Lavender is the most useful and versatile essential oil for therapeutic purposes and is most commonly associated with healing of the skin. It also has antiseptic and analgesic properties which can help relieve the pain of minor burns and skin irritations and will help prevent infection. It fosters the regeneration of new skin cells and soothes inflamed skin.   It also has cytophylactic properties that promote rapid healing and help reduce scarring. The scent of Lavender is said to have a calming effect on the body and it can be used to reduce anxiety, stress and to promote sleep.
Olive Oil Our cold pressed certified organic olive oil is excellent for restoring moisture, promoting elasticity and soothing irritation in dry and irritated skin. Olive oil is packed full of antioxidants including vitamins A and E, polyphenols, phytosterols and avenasterol which work to neutralize free radicals and repair cell membranes.
Patchouli A Deep earthy, sensual, grounding oil which uplifts the spirit whilst clearing the mind.  It is known to have anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, and healing properties.  Is great for cooling down inflammations, and assists with wound healing and scars and gives relief from acne, eczema and scalp disorders. It can even be helpful with the re-growth of skin cells and scar tissue
Potassium Sorbate A mild yet effective preservative approved by certifying bodies the world over.  Potassium sorbate is primarily used as a preservative in food, but in personal care products is employed to inhibit the growth of mould, yeast and bacteria.  It is derived from sorbic acid and extracted from organic bananas.
Rose Geranium The antiseptic and healing properties of rose geranium make it an effective aid for burns, wounds, ulcers and other skin problems.. Also helps to balance the secretion of sebum and helps keep skin supple.
Rosehip Oil Extremely high in essential fatty acids, Vitamin C and other unique phyto-substances, Rosehip is known for reducing healing times and has been found to reverse the aging effect of UV damage. Helps soothe dry and irritated skin, and helps the skin to heal and regenerate
Safflower Oil Contains a high amount of linoleic acid, an essential fatty acid and a natural moisturizing agent.  It helps maintain elasticity in the skin does not clog the pores and is suitable for sensitive skin.
Shea Butter Extracted from the Shea nut. Shea butter is hailed for its protecting and emollient properties. Shea butter contains over 50% natural triglycerides as well as natural fatty acids and is excellent for moisturising and promoting elasticity in the skin.  Rich in cinnamon acid and a natural anti-oxidant B-amyrine, it also protects the skin from UV rays and therefore can be included in skin care products for the sun.  It is often also used as a treatment for minor skin wounds and irritations.
Sodium citrate The sodium salt of citric acid.  A natural preservative and co-preservative.
Sunflower Oil High in Omega fatty acids and proteins, sunflower oil has wonderful moisturising properties, is easily absorbed and suitable for all skin types.
Xanthan Gum A natural thickener made from the fermentation of organic corn sugar and a bacteria native to cabbage, cauliflower and broccoli plants.  It has no known toxicity.
Palm Oil **A note on our Certified Organic Palm Oil.

We do use some certified organic palm oil in our baby soaps.. . sourced ONLY from certified sustainable sources, namely the well-established plantations of the Malay Peninsula which have been converted from decade old rubber plantations. We subscribe to the values of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil – a not-for-profit global association for the sustainable production and use of Palm oil. We will never source or use Palm Oil from plantations in Borneo or Sumatra or any of the natural habitats of endangered species.
